Description
I am a qualified teacher, with a Bachelor of Education (Postgraduate) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education and have over 20 years teaching experience across all sectors of education. I have also completed an Associate Multisensory Structured Language (MSL) course and I am an Accredited Member of the Australian Dyslexia Association (AMADA). This enables me to use evidence-based MSL practices to support learners with dyslexia and those who require assistance to improve their literacy skills. As a MSL Educational Specialist, I provide explicit instruction in synthetic phonics, phonemic awareness, spelling, handwriting, reading, fluency, oral vocabulary and comprehension with individually tailored lessons designed to the needs of each learner. I create an engaging and positive learning environment where students experience success.
My previous work as a Language and Learning Adviser at university, involved supporting adult learners to develop their study skills, such as, academic writing, reading strategies, note taking, presenting, understanding assignments, writing various assignment types, proof reading and editing and preparing for exams. Additionally, I can assist students to develop strategies to improve their self-management, time management, planning and organisational skills. I have also been an educational lecturer and presented, planned and delivered professional development training for teachers to acquire knowledge and strategies to support neurodiverse students.
As the parent of children with dyslexia and dysgraphia, I have witnessed the impact that struggling with literacy can have both academically and emotionally. Therefore, I am passionate about supporting students to develop their literacy along with their confidence so that they can realise their full potential.
I offer one-to-one private tuition either face to face or online via Zoom for primary-school children, teenagers and adults.
