Description
At The Learning Circle (TLC) Tutor, we specialise in supporting primary-aged students who are experiencing challenges with foundational literacy and numeracy skills. Our approach begins with identifying learning gaps through targeted assessment and designing evidence-based, individualised programs to bridge those gaps.
For challenges with decoding, we use Sounds Write, a systematic synthetic phonics approach, as the foundation of our literacy instruction, moving from there into literacy skills such as sentence structure, basic parts of speech, figurative language and writing for entertainment, persuasion and information. Skills of research, note taking and summarising are also used, alongside the use of TEEL paragraphs for older students.
For numeracy we adhere to the motto Build it! Draw it! Say It! Write it! We teach sequential steps in engaging and stimulating ways, using games based activities with a variety of concrete manipulatives, employing a strong conceptual teaching structure. Every program we offer is grounded in best practice and tailored to meet each child’s unique learning needs.

TLC is led by Nicola, an experienced educator with 28 years in the field. Over the course of her career, Nicola has curated a deep bank of professional knowledge, selecting only the most effective methods to support children with persistent learning difficulties.
While many of our students are neurodivergent, our services are inclusive of all learners. Our team is highly experienced in working with neurodiverse profiles and is committed to levelling the playing field by equipping students with strategies to reduce cognitive load and access learning with greater confidence and success.
