Tutors in Australia can now be qualified by an industry-based certification endorsed by the ATA.
This is an important step in raising standards and in providing parents with choice.
We are currently updating our qualification process
If you are a teacher then your qualification will be updated once you have provided evidence of your teaching qualifications. You may send these through to [email protected] or submit them below.
Tutors (non-qualified teachers)
If you are a tutor you will need to complete the ATA education modules to become qualified. These modules are currently in development and we will notify you when they are ready.
Completing Your Qualification
All ATA members are expected to complete the requirements for qualification. When members join they are denoted as “pending qualification”. This is because after making the membership payment the member is required to contact Qualified Tutor and provide evidence of their teaching qualification, working with children clearance, and any other specific information required to verify who you are, your qualifications and experience. Once this is done, Qualified Tutor will notify the ATA and advise us to change your “pending qualification” to “Qualified”.
Non-teachers need to do the training units provided by Qualified Tutor in order to be classified as “Qualified”. This requires contacting Qualified Tutor and enrolling in and successfully completing both a literacy test and the five training units. All of these can be completed online and they take 2-3 hours each (or less).
This denotes that the member has either not contacted Qualified Tutor or has not provided evidence of teaching or other required information. It can also mean that a non-teacher has not done the Qualification units.
The ATA expects all members to be Qualified. Our search function has been designed to preference and prioritise members who have completed their Qualification over those who have not completed Qualification. Accordingly, Qualified members appear first in searches and pending members appear lower down.
How do I change my “Pending status”?
By contacting Qualified Tutor and either do the training, or show evidence of teaching qualification and other information they require
The qualification framework and training content has been reviewed and endorsed by a number of independent professional educators and industry experts, and approved by all directors of the Australian Tutoring Association (ATA) Ltd.
