Description

I am an experienced Literacy and Learning Intervention Specialist with over 30 years’ experience in primary education and a Master of Learning Intervention (Specific Learning Difficulties) from the University of Melbourne. I hold a Bachelor of Education (Junior Primary/Primary) and a Diploma of Early Childhood Education.

I am a Practising MSL Educational Specialist (IMSLE, Aus) and an Accredited Member of the Australian Dyslexia Association. I am also trained in Sounds-Write, The Writing Revolution and Talk for Writing.

I specialise in supporting students with dyslexia and other literacy difficulties through structured, explicit and evidence-informed intervention in reading, spelling, phonological and phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, handwriting, writing and comprehension.

I provide carefully targeted, individualised instruction based on each student's specific strengths, needs and learning profile, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. My aim is to identify and address gaps in foundational literacy skills while helping students develop greater confidence, independence and enjoyment in learning.

I work with students from kindergarten (pre-school) to Year 6, including students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, Autism, intellectual disabilities and mild to severe language disorders. I have extensive experience adapting instruction, materials and the pace of learning to meet a wide range of learning needs and abilities.

I can provide targeted intervention to strengthen foundational literacy skills, support students who are struggling to keep up with classroom expectations, consolidate skills taught at school, and develop strategies to help students become more successful and independent learners. I also have extensive experience analysing assessment data, identifying specific areas of difficulty, developing individualised intervention programs and monitoring progress over time.

Where appropriate, I work collaboratively with parents, teachers and other professionals to ensure that intervention is aligned with the student's needs and can support their learning across home and school. My approach is warm, encouraging and strengths-based, while maintaining high expectations and providing the explicit, systematic teaching that students with literacy difficulties often need to make meaningful progress.
